Last night, 7 October 2008, the Litchfield Zoning Board of Appeals voted to continue its Public Hearing on the matter of the appeal of citizens of Mlton to the previous finding by the Litchfield Planning and Zoning Commission. The Hearing was continued because the attorney for the Cropseys and their professional business manager Nicholas Boyden, refused to allow Boyden and the Cropseys to be examined about their plans for the gun club, even though they were asked to do so with a month’s notice and in defiance of subsequent subpoenas.

At 5:14 this afternoon, a young Bobcat strolled down our driveway, walked across the street and disappeared onto Nancy Goldring’s property. It was in the 20-25 pound class.

Of interest, we saw a big bobcat walk through our yard on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. Any other sightings? This one was heading north. We went out onto the deck to watch it for awhile. As we approached, it flew up into a nearby tree and watched us get a good gander at it. Of further interest, Peterson’s Field Guide says turkey vultures are incorrectly referred to as turkey buzzards. Amazing what you can pick up from books.

We are advised that the Blue Swamp Road section of Milton would, under a plan proposed by the Cropsey family, become the site of a shooting facility with a live-duck-hunting and gun-dog training. This use would be part of a members only shooting club with paid memberships.

A meeting to discuss the prposal will be held at Litchfield Planning and Zoning on February 4, 2008.

Nope, not the kind you eat. The kind you do in a car. And why is it that every month or two someone is doing donuts on the green in Milton? All summer long there are skid marks on that green and most recently, there were tire tracks on the green over snow in December. Do we have any ideas on who is doing this, and has any one seen or heard anything? Perhaps we can install a motion activated camera to catch the person in the act.

I don’t really want to see it any more.

Northeast Utilities is undaunted in its desire to remove 42 ancient Maple Trees on Maple Street. They have the permission of the town Tree Warden, Jim Koser, to remove all of them, save the one where an immediate abuttor requested a public hearing in time. In addition, dozens of other trees will be severely limbed.

It seems clear that they will be back in future years to remove additional trees, many more of which Mr. Koser estimates to be over 200 years old.

It is not too late to express your protest to town officials so that this destruction can be minimized in the future.
