A sure sign of spring!

A day after the vernal equinox, a Phoebe Flycatcher was seen and heard singing along the Shepaug River in Hubbard Pines on March 21.

Also a pair of Wood Ducks, 5 Common Mergansers, and a pair of Hooded Mergansers at different times from 3/21 – 3/24.

Holly just saw a Rose-breasted Grosbeak. She says she hasn’t seen one of those for quite awhile. For my part, they all look like birds to me, but I’m trying to pick up on the flora and fauna hereabouts. Our feeder in the back yard I constructed from the steel upright from the old (and ugly) TV antenna I took down about four years ago. It has not, to date, been molested by any bears living in the area.
